Welsh piglets and sow in straw barn acrylic painting by British rural artist Sue Dewhurst

Teifi’s Pigs – Welsh Farm Piglets Painting | Contemporary British Rural Life Art

£1,800.00

Artwork Description

Teifi’s Pigs was an honour to paint and captures a rare and intimate moment on a Welsh farm.

During my time as artist in residence at Teifi Evans’ farm, I received an excited call: “Come now — the light is perfect.” Inside the barn, the atmosphere was extraordinary. A proud sow lay quietly in the straw while her lively piglets explored around her, full of curiosity and confidence. These are pure Welsh breed pigs, part of a carefully maintained line that Teifi Evans has nurtured for generations — animals that have won many agricultural awards.

The barn was calm and warm, the piglets content, the sow relaxed and watchful. We even found ourselves whispering so as not to disturb the peaceful moment unfolding in front of us.

Painted in rich acrylic layers, the straw glows with warm golden tones while the piglets’ pale pink forms gather protectively around their mother. The darker barn interior contrasts with the light falling across the animals, capturing the gentle stillness of farm life.

This painting celebrates the quiet dignity of traditional farming and the beauty of authentic rural life in Wales.

Studio Visits

My studio is open by appointment, offering a relaxed chance to see the work up close, talk through ideas, and spend time with the paintings in the space they’re made. Visitors are welcome to browse finished pieces, view works in progress, and ask questions — no pressure, no white gloves, just an honest look at the process behind the work. If you’re considering a particular painting or commission, a studio visit allows time to connect with the story, the colour, the humour and the detail that doesn’t always come through on a screen. Expect conversation, a cuppa, might stretch to a custard cream and a bit of a gossip but always a very warm welcome.

Studio visits are designed to feel comfortable and welcoming — especially if you’ve never visited an artist’s studio before.
