Pink Hat – Original Relic Box

Pink Hat is an original character painting from my Owd Lasses collection — a familiar face with a story you might almost remember.

People you’ve never met. Faces you somehow remember.

She was at every family do in that pink hat.

Nobody was entirely sure whose side of the family she belonged to. Nobody thought to ask. She simply appeared at weddings, christenings and family gatherings as though she’d always been there.

Kind eyes. A handbag kept firmly on her lap. The faint smell of mint humbugs and Tweed perfume left in her wake.

Pink Hat is one of my narrative character paintings, inspired by those wonderfully familiar people who inhabit our memories even when we can no longer quite place them.

The original painting has been presented as a Relic Box — turning the character into something between an artwork, a keepsake and a little piece of imagined social history.

It isn’t intended to be a portrait of one particular woman.

And yet you may feel certain you knew her.

That is the idea behind these pieces: art that feels familiar, with a story — even if it isn’t yours.

The Relic Box

This original character painting is presented as a one of a kind original artwork, not a reproduction.

Each Relic Box is individually created as a one-off piece, bringing together my figurative painting with the feeling of a treasured object discovered in a drawer, handbag or old family cupboard. There’s a back story and QR code playlist too.

An original character painting presented as a one-of-a-kind Relic Box — part artwork, part keepsake, part half-remembered family story.

Kind eyes, a faint smell of mint humbugs and rose water — and that pink hat.

Studio Visits

My studio is open by appointment, offering a relaxed chance to see the work up close, talk through ideas, and spend time with the paintings in the space they’re made. Visitors are welcome to browse finished pieces, view works in progress, and ask questions — no pressure, no white gloves, just an honest look at the process behind the work. If you’re considering a particular painting or commission, a studio visit allows time to connect with the story, the colour, the humour and the detail that doesn’t always come through on a screen. Expect conversation, a cuppa, might stretch to a custard cream and a bit of a gossip but always a very warm welcome.

Studio visits are designed to feel comfortable and welcoming — especially if you’ve never visited an artist’s studio before.
