Description
This Relic Box is home to Bridie, an original Northern character painting of a dancing queen.
Bridie was a nurse for forty years.
She’s seen stuff.
Nobody is entirely sure of her real age, although she must be knocking eighty by now. It has never stopped her. Bridie is always glammed up, always ready for a do, and usually the first one on the dancefloor and the last one off it.
She has an eye for the men, can drink most of them under the table, and by the end of the night the shoes are off, the feet are bare and the toenails are still perfectly painted.
Bridie is the original Dancing Queen.
Bridie’s Northern character painting combines an original 6 × 6 × 1.5 inch character painting with memorabilia and fragments from Bridie’s imagined life, presented inside a unique found box.
The objects around her become clues to a woman who has worked hard, seen more than she will ever tell you, and still knows exactly how to enjoy herself.
Perhaps Bridie is also a small reminder to live every day as though it matters — to wear the good shoes, get on the dancefloor, laugh loudly and not save everything for another time.
A little talisman for living while you can.
My Relic Boxes are inspired by the ordinary traces people leave behind — photographs, handwritten notes, tickets, perfume, keepsakes and scraps of lives that can suddenly bring a whole person flooding back.
