Description
Donna Kebab captures the aftermath of another legendary night in Newcastle’s famous Bigg Market — the long-established heart of Geordie nightlife, kebab shops and questionable decisions.
Part of Sue Dewhurst’s much-loved Owd Lasses series, this original narrative painting blends humour, tenderness and social observation with good old Northern atmosphere. Donna strides through the city in towering boots and fading glamour, handbag still clutched tight, searching for her missing phone and possibly fragments of the previous evening.
Beneath the humour lies a richer story. Like many of Sue Dewhurst’s female characters, Donna represents resilience, survival and working-class wit. Raised as the eldest of nine, she learned early how to look after everyone else before finally deciding it might be her turn to shine.
Painted with expressive brushwork and warm urban tones, Donna Kebab celebrates Newcastle culture, Geordie nightlife and the unforgettable characters found in Britain’s city centres after dark. The painting combines contemporary figurative art with storytelling and nostalgia, creating a true talking point for the wall.
Ideal for collectors of Northern art, Newcastle artwork and contemporary British narrative painting.
