The Nervous Arrival – Little Relic
This nervous bride art print shows the moment the bride and her Dad arrive at the church gates.
Her dad looks just as terrified.
She may be wondering whether she is making the biggest mistake of her life. He is probably worrying about his speech, the bill — and whether he has remembered everything Jean told him to do.
There’s still time to run.
This Little Relic takes a detail from my original painting The Nervous Arrival and pairs it with a fragment of imagined family life: a handwritten note from Jean to Dad containing the practical instructions for the big day.
Because even at one of life’s most pivotal moments, somebody still has to remember the pills, the timings, the flowers and all the little things that keep a family moving.
That mixture of huge emotion and ordinary domestic detail is what fascinates me about old family photographs. We see the dress, the flowers and the occasion — but rarely know what anybody was really thinking.
The Little Relics are small pieces of storytelling art: character, memory and imagined ephemera brought together as something to keep, give or simply for yourself – A talisman to remind us to live our best life and have fun .
A little relic of a life that may never have happened — but somehow feels familiar.
