Humorous Art Exhibition coming to Cardigan in April 26

Owd Lasses Art Exhibition in Cardigan April 2026 | Sue Dewhurst Owd Lasses & Rural Lives

Lock Up Your Grandads The Girls Are Coming To Cardigan

There’s something stirring in Cardigan this April… and you might want to warn your Grandads.

From 19th–25th April, I’ll be bringing my bold, cheeky and humorous art exhibition

to the Corn Exchange at The Guildhall in Aberteifi. A week-long exhibition filled with stories of people and place — with just a bit of mischief thrown in for good measure.

This exhibition brings together two of my signature collections:

  • The Owd Lasses – unapologetic, witty women inspired by real Northern characters, full of attitude, humour and lived experience
  • Rural Lives – expressive paintings of countryside and coastal life, capturing the grit, beauty and nostalgia of working landscapes

Alongside my work, I’ll also be showcasing a handpicked selection of guest makers, including beautiful glass pieces from Dogem Glass and other unique finds from my Oriel Haywire days.

My work is rooted in storytelling — the kind you recognise instantly.

The woman you saw in the precinct.
The one rushing past chapel to bingo.
The farmer braced against the wind.

These paintings aren’t polished postcards — they’re about real lives, humour, resilience and the moments in between.

Location: Corn Exchange, The Guildhall, Cardigan (Aberteifi), SA43 1JL
Dates: 19th – 25th April 2026

Opening Times:
Sunday: 12–4
Monday–Saturday: 10–4

👉 Save the date and come along — no hushed gallery voices required.

See you in Cardigan.

Her work captures working-class humour, nostalgia, and the grit of everyday life, from bingo halls to windswept farmland. Sue creates original paintings, limited edition prints, and bespoke commissions, collecting stories as much as she paints them. Her artwork is collected by those who value wit, heritage, and connection to place. Explore available work or commission your own Owd Lass at suedewhurst.co.uk.

Studio Visits

My studio is open by appointment, offering a relaxed chance to see the work up close, talk through ideas, and spend time with the paintings in the space they’re made. Visitors are welcome to browse finished pieces, view works in progress, and ask questions — no pressure, no white gloves, just an honest look at the process behind the work. If you’re considering a particular painting or commission, a studio visit allows time to connect with the story, the colour, the humour and the detail that doesn’t always come through on a screen. Expect conversation, a cuppa, might stretch to a custard cream and a bit of a gossip but always a very warm welcome.

Studio visits are designed to feel comfortable and welcoming — especially if you’ve never visited an artist’s studio before.
