Original hellebore flower painting by Sue Dewhurst showing white spring flowers emerging from woodland leaves

Hellebores in Early Spring – Original Botanical Painting – Sue Dewhurst

£125.00

Hellebores are among the quiet heroes of the garden. Appearing when winter still lingers, their delicate, pearlescent petals push bravely through last year’s fallen leaves to announce the arrival of spring.

Inspired by the woodland edges and gardens of the British countryside.

Painting them was a challenge I loved — capturing both their fragile beauty and their surprising toughness. Up close the flowers seem almost translucent, glowing softly against the deep woodland greens.

I’ve always thought hellebores feel like hidden jewels scattered through the undergrowth — the sort of flower that rewards you for stopping and really looking.

This small original painting celebrates that moment of discovery.

The chunky floating frame gives the piece presence while keeping the work intimate — perfect for a desk, shelf, or small wall space where it can bring a little daily lift during the darker months.

A lovely piece for gardeners, nature lovers, or anyone who appreciates the quiet optimism of early spring.

Perfect for: gardeners, plant lovers, botanical art collectors, or as a thoughtful gift for someone who loves the first signs of spring.

Studio Visits

My studio is open by appointment, offering a relaxed chance to see the work up close, talk through ideas, and spend time with the paintings in the space they’re made. Visitors are welcome to browse finished pieces, view works in progress, and ask questions — no pressure, no white gloves, just an honest look at the process behind the work. If you’re considering a particular painting or commission, a studio visit allows time to connect with the story, the colour, the humour and the detail that doesn’t always come through on a screen. Expect conversation, a cuppa, might stretch to a custard cream and a bit of a gossip but always a very warm welcome.

Studio visits are designed to feel comfortable and welcoming — especially if you’ve never visited an artist’s studio before.
